Is it OK to delay conversion to Islam?
Islam is the true religion of Allah and embracing it helps the person attain happiness in this worldly life and the Hereafter. Allah concluded the divine revelations with the religion of Islam; accordingly, He does not accept His slaves having a religion other than Islam, as He says in the Quran:
Whoever seeks a way other than Islam, it will never be accepted from them, and in the Hereafter they will be among the losers.
Quran - 3:85(interpretation of the meaning)
Whoever dies while following a religion other than Islam has lost the life of the world and the Hereafter. Hence, it is obligatory for the person to hasten to embrace Islam as one does not know of the possible hindrances that one may encounter, including death. Therefore, there should be no procrastination in this regard.
Death is possible at any time, so one should hasten to enter Islam immediately, so that if their time should come soon, they will meet Allah as a follower of His religion, Islam, besides which He accepts no other religion.
It should be noted that a Muslim is obliged to adhere to the apparent devotional rites and duties such as performing the prayer on time; however one can perform them secretly and even combine two prayers according to the sunnah of the prophet ﷺ (peace be upon him) when a pressing need arises.
Therefore, dying as a non-Muslim is not like dying as a Muslim sinner. A non-Muslim will abide in the Hellfire eternally. However, even if a Muslim enters the Hellfire because of sins, one will be punished for them but will not abide therein permanently. Moreover, Allah might forgive the latter's sins, save such a person from Hellfire, and admit him or her into Paradise. Allah says in the Quran:
Surely Allah does not forgive associating ˹others˺ with Him ˹in worship˺, but forgives anything else of whoever He wills. Indeed, whoever associates ˹others˺ with Allah has clearly gone far astray.
Quran - 4:116(interpretation of the meaning)
Lastly, we advise you to hasten to embrace Islam and everything will be better, Allah willing. Allah says in the Quran:
(...) And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for them, and provide for them from sources they could never imagine. And whoever puts their trust in Allah, then He ˹alone˺ is sufficient for them. (...)
Quran - 65:2-3(interpretation of the meaning)
